MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER TODAY

SPC has placed nearly all of the NWS IWX Warning Area under a Moderate Risk for Severe Weather today. There will be two rounds of thunderstorms - this morning (less of a severe threat) and this evening and overnight. This morning, the threats of severe weather is more isolated with the greatest threat being damaging wind gusts and hail to 3/4" in diameter. Later today (after 7 PM) the threat for severe weather increases as we expect to see a well organized squall line with embedded supercells. With the squall line, we are expecting widespread damaging winds (gusts of 60-70 MPH possible), larger hail (1 to 1.5 inches). Isolated tornadoes can be embedded in the squall line HOWEVER these will be difficult to distinguish, observe and will likely be wrapped up in heavy rain.
