ACCUMULATING SNOW FOR SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT.

 

SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA FROM WEST TO EAST DURING THE EVENING AND EARLY OVERNIGHT HOURS SATURDAY NIGHT...AND CONTINUE SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT. THE PERIOD OF HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED FROM SUNDAY MORNING INTO SUNDAY EVENING. THE STORM SYSTEM RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS SNOW IS STILL LOCATED JUST OFF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON. WHILE CONFIDENCE IS HIGH IN ACCUMULATING SNOW...EXACT AMOUNTS ARE OF MEDIUM CONFIDENCE DUE TO CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY REGARDING THE EXACT TRACK AND STRENGTH OF THIS SYSTEM. HOWEVER...THE POTENTIAL DOES EXIST FOR STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 INCHES OR GREATER FROM SATURDAY NIGHT TO SUNDAY EVENING. LESSER SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED SOUTH OF ROUTE 30 WHERE A RAIN AND SNOW MIX IS POSSIBLE SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS SYSTEM WILL LIKELY RESULT IN TRAVEL IMPACTS THIS WEEKEND.

*SUSTAINED WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE SATURDAY TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH. GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH ARE EXPECTED NEAR LAKE MICHIGAN.

A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT NORTHWESTERN FULTON, SOUTHEASTERN STARKE, EASTERN PULASKI AND SOUTHERN MARSHALL COUNTIES. 

AT 334 PM EDT/234 PM CDT/...RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SHOWERS WITH A FEW EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM NEAR CULVER TO NEAR WINAMAC TO 6 MILES NORTH OF ROYAL CENTER. MOVEMENT WAS NORTHEAST AT 45 MPH. WIND GUSTS TO 40 MPH AND PEA SIZE HAIL ARE POSSIBLE WITH THESE SHOWERS AND STORMS. 

LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE: PLYMOUTH, ROCHESTER, BOURBON, ARGOS, CULVER, WALNUT, TIPPECANOE, KEWANNA, MONTEREY, LEITERS FORD, BURR OAK, OLD TIP TOWN, TIOSA, TWIN LAKES, LAKE MANITOU, MAXINKUCKEE, RUTLAND, STAR CITY, VANMETER PARK AND INWOOD.

***HAZARDOUS WEATHER***

FROST IS EXPECTED LATE TONIGHT OVER ALL OF FAR SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN AND MUCH OF NORTHERN INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO. 

TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL TO BETWEEN 35 AND 37 DEGREES BY DAYBREAK OVER AREAS NEAR AND NORTH OF HIGHWAY 30.

TENDER GARDEN PLANTS AND OTHER VEGETATION MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SURVIVE THESE COLD TEMPERATURES.

Indiana Target Area: Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Marshall, Noble, St. Joseph, Wabash, and Whitley Counties.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING FOR URBAN AREAS AND SMALL STREAMS IN EASTERN ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, NORTHEASTERN FULTON COUNTY, NORTHWESTERN WABASH COUNTY, WHITLEY COUNTY, EASTERN MARSHALL COUNTY, WESTERN NOBLE COUNTY, ELKHART COUNTY, KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, AND LAGRANGE COUNTY UNTIL 200 AM EDT.

*AT 1104 PM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR AND REPORTING GAUGES INDICATE THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN WITH RAINFALL RATES OF 3 TO 4 INCHES PER HOUR. UP TO ONE INCH OF RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN. 

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE: SOUTH BEND, ELKHART, MISHAWAKA, GOSHEN, WARSAW, COLUMBIA CITY, NAPPANEE, NORTH MANCHESTER, WINONA LAKE, BREMEN, LIGONIER, GEORGETOWN, SYRACUSE, LAGRANGE, DUNLAP, SIMONTON LAKE, TRI-LAKES, GULIVOIRE PARK, GRANGER AND MIDDLEBURY. 

ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES ARE LIKELY IN THE WARNED AREA. THIS WILL LEAD TO RAPID PONDING OF WATER AND STREET FLOODING IN URBAN AREAS AND LEAD TO RAPID RISES ON SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS.

Instructions: BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF ANY ROADS THAT IS FLOODED DO NOT CROSS THE WATER. IF FLOODED TURN AROUND AND DON'T DROWN.
