Heat Advisory Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Miami, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley Counties.

 

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT EDT THURSDAY NIGHT.

*WHAT: For the Heat Advisory, heat index values of 95 to 100 are expected during the afternoon and evening hours.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: For the Heat Advisory, from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Thursday night.

*IMPACTS: Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses. Particularly vulnerable locations include areas with ongoing power outages and continued clean up efforts.

 

Instructions: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON EDT /11 AM CDT/ TODAY TO MIDNIGHT EDT /11 PM CDT/ WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

*WHAT: Dangerously hot and humid conditions with afternoon and evening heat index values of 100 to 110.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: From noon today to midnight EDT Wednesday night.

*IMPACTS: Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Heat indices today and Wednesday will rise to dangerous levels from around noon to 8 pm EDT. Full sun today will make it feel even hotter. There will not be much relief for those without air conditioning today through Wednesday night.

EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

*WHAT: For the Excessive Heat Watch, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112 are possible.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana south of a line from South Bend to Bluffton.

*WHEN: For the Excessive Heat Watch, from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.

*IMPACTS: Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Heat indices will be around 100 to 105 this afternoon and then rise to between 100 and 110 Tuesday and Wednesday. This Watch will likely be upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning.

 

Instructions: Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
