Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Allen, De Kalb, Fulton, Huntington, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley Counties.

 

A LINE OF SHOWERS WILL AFFECT NORTHERN WABASH, NOBLE, WHITLEY, NORTHERN HUNTINGTON, KOSCIUSKO, SOUTHEASTERN LAGRANGE, AND STEUBEN COUNTIES.

At 1144 PM EDT, radar indicated showers were located along a line extending from near Cement City to 8 miles south of Culver. An isolated thunderstorm is possible along this line. The movement was east southeast at 45 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these showers. Isolated stronger wind gusts are possible with any thunderstorms.

Locations impacted include: Fort Wayne, Huntington, Defiance, New Haven, Warsaw, Auburn, Kendallville, Columbia City, Napoleon, Angola, Bryan, Hillsdale, Wauseon, Garrett, Rochester, North Manchester, Winona Lake, Ligonier, Archbold and Montpelier. This includes the following highways, Interstate 469 between mile markers 0 and 30, Interstate 69 in Indiana between mile markers 288 and 357, Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 143 and 156 and Interstate 80 in Ohio between mile markers 0 and 48.

FROST POSSIBLE TONIGHT.

A combination of clearing skies and light winds will allow temperatures to reach near and below freezing. This will result in some frost developing, especially in low-lying areas, during the early morning hours.

 

Instructions: Sensitive outdoor plants could be harmed or killed if left uncovered.

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Cass, Fulton, Huntington, Kosciusko, La, Porte, Marshall, Miami, Pulaski, Starke, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EDT /1 PM CDT/ FRIDAY.

*WHAT: Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana.

*WHEN: Until 2 PM EDT /1 PM CDT/ Friday.

*IMPACTS: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Snow will develop late tonight and persist into Friday morning. The snow will be heavy at times, especially north of Route 24. The period of heaviest snow is expected from roughly 4 AM to 10 AM EDT Friday. Rain may mix with the snow south of Route 24, limiting snow amounts across these locations.

Freeze Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Blackford, Cass, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Miami, Pulaski, Wabash, Wells, and White Counties.

 

FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EDT THIS MORNING.

*WHAT: Sub-freezing temperatures in the mid to upper 20s.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

*IMPACTS: Temperatures in the mid to upper 20s will likely damage unprotected and sensitive vegetation.

 

Instructions: Take steps now to protect tender plants and any flowers on fruit trees from the cold.

FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 9 AM EDT THURSDAY.

*WHAT: Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 expected.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

*IMPACTS: Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

 

Instructions: Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
