Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley Counties.

 

Gusty South Winds This Afternoon.

South winds will increase across northern Indiana and southern Lower Michigan this afternoon. Peak wind gusts of around 40 mph will be possible, with the strongest winds expected this afternoon through 5 PM EST.

 

Instructions: Secure loose outdoor objects. High profile vehicles and motorists along east to west roads should be prepared for difficult driving conditions.

Flood Watch Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley Counties.

 

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Watch, which is in effect from Friday evening through Saturday evening.

*Flood Watch for portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio, including the following areas, in Northern Indiana; Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph IN, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley. In Southwest Michigan; Berrien, Branch, Cass, Hillsdale, and St. Joseph. In Northwest Ohio; Allen, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Williams.

*From Friday evening through Saturday evening.

*Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall will develop Friday evening and continue into Saturday evening. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are likely across the watch area with locally higher amounts possible.

*Flooding of low lying areas and along small creeks and stream is most likely. In addition, significant river flooding is likely to develop this weekend and extend into much of next week.

 

Instructions: A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Gusty Winds Expected This Evening.

Gusty southwest winds are expected to exceed 35 mph at times this evening and may sporadically reach around 40 mph. Consider securing loose objects like lawn furniture and holiday decorations as well as trash cans that could blow around within these winds. In addition, scattered snow showers this evening could create slick spots for driving and briefly reduce visibility. Use caution while driving.

Indiana Target Area: Allen, Cass, De Kalb, Fulton, Huntington, Kosciusko, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, Wabash, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

SNOW AND WIND TO IMPACT TRAVEL THIS MORNING.

An area of light to moderate snow will continue to fill in early this morning, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle before daybreak. The snow will then taper off between 9 am and 11 am this morning. Accumulations of a half-inch to two inches are expected, with west winds gusting up to 40 mph at times. Expect any untreated roads to become snow or slush covered this morning, likely impacting the morning commute. Motorists are advised to allow extra time to reach their destination this morning. When driving on snow or slush-covered roads, reduce speed and increase following distance between other vehicles.

 

Instructions: With snow-covered roads, you need to allow at least 2 car lengths between each car. If you are following a snowplow you need to be at least 4 car lengths between you and the plow itself.

Flood Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash and Whitley Counties.

 

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers; Eel River at North Manchester affecting Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash and Whitley Counties.

*From this evening to Wednesday morning.

*At 9 AM Monday the stage was 9.5 feet and rising.

*Minor flooding is forecast.

*Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

*At 11.0 feet...The river is at flood stage, minor agricultural flooding occurs.

*This crest compares to a previous crest of 11.5 feet which occurred on Jun 21 2016.

Forecast: The river will rise above flood stage Monday evening and crest near 11.2 feet around 1 AM Tuesday December 31 and fall below flood stage around 7 AM Tuesday December 31.

Recent rainfall of 1 to 1.75 inches of rain has resulted in rising waters on the Eel River at North Manchester. The river is forecast to be very near, or just over, minor flood stage tonight.

 

Instructions: Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near floodwaters.
