WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM EST SUNDAY...

HAZARDOUS WEATHER...
* SNOW...STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

* BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING AS HIGH AS 40 TO 45 MPH WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITY. VISIBILITY OF LESS THAN ONE QUARTER OF A MILE ARE EXPECTED DUE TO SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW. WHITEOUT OR NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED AT TIMES THROUGH EARLY EVENING...ESPECIALLY ACROSS OPEN AREAS.

* DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS VALUES BETWEEN 15 BELOW ZERO AND 25 BELOW ZERO ARE EXPECTED TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING.

* TRAVEL IS EXPECTED TO BE HAZARDOUS DUE TO FALLING SNOW, AND BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW, WITH SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED VISIBILITY.

* BITTERLY COLD WIND CHILLS MAY LEAD TO FROST BITE IN 30 MINUTES OR LESS.

* PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THIS EXTREME COLD CAN LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA.

* TIMING...BANDS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MID AFTERNOON AS AN ARCTIC FRONT MOVES THROUGH THE AREA, WITH BANDS OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW EXPECTED BEHIND THIS FRONT THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS, GENERALLY RANGING BETWEEN 2 AND 4 INCHES. DUE TO THE NATURE OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW, EXACT TOTALS MAY VARY SIGNIFICANTLY DEPENDING ON WHERE THE HEAVIER SNOW BANDS SET UP.

* BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW, WHILE ONLY LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE FORECAST, NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING AS HIGH AS 45 MPH WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITY. WHITEOUT OR NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED AT TIMES THROUGH THIS EVENING, ESPECIALLY ACROSS OPEN AREAS.

MODERATE TO HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TO CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON.

A BAND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL INDIANA ALONG WITH SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN THIS AFTERNOON. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHWEST BERRIEN COUNTY AND MUCH OF LA PORTE COUNTY THROUGH 3 PM EST. THIS LAKE EFFECT BAND WILL ALSO AFFECT STARKE, PULASKI, FULTON, CASS, AND WHITE COUNTIES IN NORTHEAST INDIANA. MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT RAPID CHANGES IN VISIBILITY DUE TO THE NATURE OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS THIS AFTERNOON...WITH NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS POSSIBLE AT TIMES ACROSS ESPECIALLY SOUTHWEST BERRIEN AND LA PORTE COUNTIES. * SNOW...1 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION. MOST OF THE SNOW ACCUMULATION SATURDAY AFTERNOON INTO SATURDAY NIGHT WILL BE DUE TO LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS.

* BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...WHILE ONLY LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE FORECAST...NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING AS HIGH AS 35 TO 40 MPH WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITY.

* LAKE EFFECT SNOW...ADDITIONAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL VARY GREATLY DEPENDING ON THE DURATION OF ANY SNOWBANDS IN ONE SPOT. ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 4 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ACROSS STARKE, WESTERN MARSHALL, AND EXTREME WESTERN ST. JOSEPH COUNTIES. WITH ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS GENERALLY AN INCH OR LESS ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE ADVISORY AREA THROUGH EARLY EVENING.

* BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...NORTHWEST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 30 MPH WILL CAUSE WIDESPREAD BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW INTO THIS AFTERNOON...EVEN ACROSS AREAS WHICH ONLY RECEIVE MINOR ADDITIONAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS.

* HEAVY SNOW BANDS WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT THE ADVISORY AREA THIS AFTERNOON...WITH THE HEAVIEST BANDS EXPECTED TO AFFECT STARKE, EXTREME WESTERN ST. JOSEPH, AND WESTERN MARSHALL COUNTIES.

* VISIBILITY WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED IN HEAVIER SNOW BANDS. SOME BANDS WILL PRODUCE WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. THESE CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR WITH LITTLE ADVANCED WARNING.

* BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL CAUSE ADDITIONAL TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES.
