Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

****HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER THIS WEEKEND****

ALTHOUGH RECENT RAINFALL HAS INCREASED FINE FUELS MOISTURE SOMEWHAT, A COMBINATION OF HUMIDITY VALUES IN THE 25 TO 30 PERCENT RANGE, WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH AND INCREASING SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS OF 15 TO 20 MPH WILL ALLOW FOR RAPID DRYING THIS AFTERNOON. AS A RESULT, THERE WILL BE AN INCREASED RISK FOR GRASS, BRUSH, AND DITCH FIRES TO SPREAD OUT OF CONTROL. ON SUNDAY, TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB INTO THE 60S WITH AFTERNOON HUMIDITY VALUES DROPPING INTO THE 25 TO 35 PERCENT RANGE AS WINDS INCREASE ONCE AGAIN TO 15 TO 25 MPH. THE BEST TIME FOR BURNING WILL BE MID TO LATE MORNING BEFORE WIND SPEEDS INCREASE. BURNING IS NOT ADVISED DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS BOTH TODAY AND SUNDAY. IF YOU MUST BURN, ENSURE THAT THE FIRE IS CONSTANTLY MONITORED, AND SEVERAL OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE TO QUICKLY EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. IF CONTROL OF THE FIRE IS LOST, QUICKLY CALL 911 AND REQUEST THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO RESPOND.

PATCHY DENSE FOG HAS DEVELOPED ACROSS THE AREA. THE FOG IS EXPECTED TO BE VARIABLE THROUGHOUT THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD WITH VISIBILITY DROPPING TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES. MOTORISTS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR QUICKLY CHANGING VISIBILITY CAUSING HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. IF DRIVING...SLOW DOWN AND LEAVE PLENTY OF DISTANCE AHEAD OF YOU.

SLICK ROADS POSSIBLE TODAY. SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD SOUTHEAST ACROSS SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN, NORTHERN INDIANA, AND NORTHWEST OHIO.  LATE THIS MORNING INTO THIS AFTERNOON. ONE TO THREE INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED, MAINLY ON GRASSY AREAS. HOWEVER...THE SNOWFALL MAY BE HEAVY ENOUGH AT TIMES FOR SOME ROADS TO BECOME SNOW COVERED AND SLICK, RESULTING IN HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. PEOPLE TRAVELING IN THE AREA TODAY MAY WANT TO ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH THEIR DESTINATIONS, WITH VISIBILITY REDUCED TO LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON HOURS.

AT 1124 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED SHOWERS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM WARSAW TO 18 MILES SOUTH OF GRISSOM AFB...MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH. PEA SIZE HAIL...OCCASIONAL CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING AND BRIEF HEAVY DOWNPOURS ARE POSSIBLE WITH THESE STORMS.

*AREAS OF DENSE FOG WILL LIMIT VISIBILITY TO LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE THROUGH SUNRISE.

*DENSE FOG WILL CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS AND TRAVEL DELAYS.
